Post-Tensioning Systems

External post-tensioning consists of prestressing tendons externally attached to the structural element at engineered anchor points, typically located at member ends. Uplift forces are introduced to the member at specific locations along its span by controlling the tendon’s profile along the member to achieve the desired level of capacity or serviceability improvement. Internal post-tensioning systems are installed within the member; therefore, the structural element itself provides the required protection to increase durability and fire resistance. After stressing, the tendons may be grouted to achieve a bonded system.

Post-Tensioning Advantages:

·        Controls deflection

·        Can be corrosion and/or fireproofed

·        Reduces concrete mass and building costs
